Despite the difficulty of online learning, we need our students and whānau to support us with the academic progress of our akonga
Online learning when students have to isolate
If your daughter is well enough while isolating they are expected to engage with the online learning resources provided on Schoology. This means reading the material, completing the activities set, and continuing to work on assessment tasks. Schoology is updated regularly. It is really important that students make contact with their teachers if this is not possible. It is essential that students take responsibility for their online learning, as teachers are continuing to teach in person. Teachers will be available during school hours, when they are not teaching, to answer queries via email and/or Schoology.
If internet connection and device availability is making online learning difficult, please contact the Year Level Dean who will work with you to find a solution:
We know that the Omicron outbreak has been challenging for everyone. Collectively - whānau and kura working together - we will endeavour to attain a successful academic outcome for your daughter. Keeping up to date with online learning will make for an easier transition back into school and reduce the pressure to catch up on your daughter.
NCEA Assessment timeframe change
If your daughter has been unwell for a significant period of time and is completing NCEA assessments, please contact the Principal’s Nominee mitchellm@hghs.school.nz She may be granted a replacement assessment or an extension for assessments dating back no more than two weeks.
Notifying the school of a student who has tested positive
If your daughter tests positive for Covid, please let the school know as soon as possible by emailing covidresponse@hghs.school.nz If your daughter is absent from school for any reason, including being a household contact and needing to isolate, please email absences@hghs.school.nz to let us know. Keeping the school informed in a timely manner of any absences allows us to better support students in their online learning and troubleshoot issues with NCEA assessment.
Students attending school
A reminder that if students feel ill or are displaying COVID-related symptoms they should not come to school. If students become unwell at school and are displaying Covid-like symptoms, they will be temporarily supervised by our School Nurse, until a parent or caregiver can arrange plans to have their daughter picked up and tested.
Omicron Response Planning
As advised, we continually review the Omicron Response Plan and advise our school community in a timely manner. We recognise that the current situation with the Omicron outbreak is difficult for students and whānau to manage. Our risk mitigation strategies at school, like mask-wearing, classroom ventilation and good hygiene practices, are working. It is our intention to continue to communicate and act in a cautious manner, ensuring our students are at the centre of our decision-making.
