HGHS Head Girl Rebecca Yuan looks forward to attending New York University’s High School Filmmakers Workshop.

In this online programme Rebecca will work with other high school students from across the globe to create and upload skill-building projects, inspired by daily exclusive video lectures. She will connect for one-on-one video meetings with her instructors to get feedback. She will develop her writing, directing, shooting, and editing skills to produce a crew-based documentary, a crew-based music video, 3 technical assignments, and a final narrative film that she will write and direct.

“I really want to tell stories that allow people to see their lives, and the lives of others, from different perspectives. The Online High School Filmmakers Workshop will connect me with people from different backgrounds, locations, and languages. What better way to see things from a different perspective? It will be a month of working collaboratively to build stories. Methods and techniques from a diverse group of people I can carry with me through the rest of my filmmaking journey,” Rebecca explains.

Rebecca applied for a spot in this programme for aspiring young filmmakers by submitting a personal statement, a creative résumé and by converting her New Zealand NCEA results into the American GPA system to prove she met the minimum 4.0 grade. Once completed, she will have earned college credits that she might use if she attends a US based university in the future.

Rebecca hopes to continue her passion for filmmaking at university after she finishes high school.
