A message from the editor...

It is my pleasure to introduce Edition #8 of the HGHS Lionheart Magazine, and the first publication of 2023. Throughout this collection of articles, the theme of “cultivating change” or “te hurihanga tiritiri” and how it applies to our students, is explored.

Change is an everlasting factor in our lives which is continuously impacting everything that we do. It provides opportunities to grow as individuals and develop into our best selves, as well as potentially hindering our progress. The prospect of change can be both welcoming and terrifying, however we must understand that it is a form of natural growth which is responsible for new ideas and innovation. Whether positive or negative, we all experience change but it’s up to us to determine our response. From creative writing to opinion pieces and advice columns, I hope all of you will find a message within which resonates with you.

A massive thank you to the 2023 Academic Council for being the driving force behind the creation of this edition. Alongside this, I would like to acknowledge all of the students who contributed their phenomenal pieces as well as Jessie Hilton who designed our incredible front cover art as well as some additional pieces. It is inspirational to see your thoughts and opinions transposed into words to be shared with our community. You have captured the embodiment of our kura through your hard work and dedication and I am so thrilled to share this magazine to the wider community.

Enjoy the read!
