Thoughts from our Student Leaders:
Carmina:
Some people say to me “eww why do you go to Highfield” and I reply with “why not?.”
I have had incredible opportunities, teachers and experiences all thanks to Highfield school. I have been in multiple sports teams. Won the South Canterbury jump jam extravaganza every year since I was 6. I was able to go to the Aoraki math competition, and participate in Otago problem solving. I will always remember the time I got brain freeze from swimming in the school. I went to national young leaders day with my whole class twice! how many people can say that. I have been on some incredible school trips, going to the heartlands chip factory would have to be my favourite. Plus day to day in the classroom has been so enjoyable with fun, creative and thought provoking lessons thanks to the amazing teachers I have had during my 8 years here, whom I am all so grateful for. And gosh what a year 2020 has been. I became the school leader which I have loved every minute of. I love being a role model to the younger students and my peers and talking in front of the school. Then there was lockdown which was a one weird experience. I never thought I would be doing hui’s from my bedroom or be home schooled for 6 weeks let alone spending 6 weeks at home with my sisters! In 2020 I was also lucky enough to attend the young inspiring explores Worsley weekend in Akaroa. The William Pike challenge has been a highlight of this year. I loved doing my passion project and surfing with my friends. I highly recommend everyone trying the William Pike challenge in the future. I helped the breakfast club which was very enjoyable. Plus I went on the coolest year 8 camp to raincliffe last week, where I had an intense volleyball game against some of the parents and teachers and went abseiling for the first time. The camp was a great way to end my last year at primary school. So looking at all these amazing things I have done at Highfield, I can only say why wouldn’t you come here.
Next year I am going to Craighead and I will be very proud to tell everyone that I went to Highfield school and I hope I continue making Highfield proud throughout the next chapters of my life.
