Week one has flown by and what a week it was. I have been super impressed at just how well the tamariki have settled back into their routines with a positive can do attitude to learning. The resilient Highfield way is shining through !

We have launched right back into our maths groups focusing on number recognition and sequences for the next few weeks. Some of us have been brushing up on our two digit numbers while others are diving deeper into thinking about what really makes up a three digit number.

Literacy has been awesome this week. We have been thinking a lot about the differences between long vowels and short vowels and when we use them while reading and spelling. This has been helping us read words that we have never come across before! For shared reading we have been reading the book “Now that’s a hat!” By Heath McKenzie. We then designed our own crazy hats and wrote about them! We also read the creation story and talked about Ranganui and Papatuanuku.

We have also been to our first Te Reo lesson for the term with the amazing Kerryn and training for our upcoming cross country that is in week four.
