This week we have started our morning learning with a 3 – 5 children choosing a movement card from the pile (Bear walk, Crab walk, Tree pose, Superman pose etc).  We move around the class making these movements. This helps us to get our bodies and brains ready for learning.

During maths each day we have a calendar activity which also helps us practice taking turns, waiting and choosing a friend for the next go.  Then we practice writing numbers to 10.  This week we have enjoyed No more monkeys jumping on the bed.

After maths we all clean our teeth with Barnaby Bee.

During literacy we start with a shared story and a retelling activity. This week our story was Brown Bear, Brown Bear and the children matched the animals and colours as they listened.

Then we have Word Card practice which they follow along with, pointing their finger at the letter.  Everyone has been practicing theirpen grip and tracing their name.  Story telling has been popular this week.  During story telling the children draw a picture and I write their story or conversation down underneath.

During all of this busy time of learning, I am starting to complete assessments for maths and literacy.  This will help me plan for learning groups and everyone’s next learning steps.

Today we also made pikelets.  The children all had a few wee round ones and then one that was shaped like the first letter of their name – everyone was very excited to eat that!!
