Tēnā koutou katoa
A huge thank you to everyone for your support with our Matariki celebration last night. The students and staff enjoyed sharing their learning with the community and we all appreciated the opportunity to welcome everyone back into the school for functions like this.
This weekend is the first official Matariki holiday and school will be closed on Friday. Matariki is a time of unity, remembrance, renewal celebration and hope, an opportunity to give thanks for the harvest and to draw family and friends to the table for shared food.
Last week our teachers have been involved with Paid union meetings – they have opted to do this by covering each other’s classes so that our school community wouldn’t be affected by the school closing for the afternoon. Many thanks to the support staff for going above and beyond when this happened.
With Mid Year reporting now being shared on our HERO platform this year, please make sure you are signed up and are viewing the progress your child is making. If you are not sure how to do this, contact Nicola in the office, or your class teacher.
With much sickness around over the past few weeks and especially this week, we thank you for your support in keeping unwell children at home. Hopefully, this flu season passes through Highfield quickly and we can have all staff and students back in class soon!
Next week’s whole school assembly is on Friday 1 July at 2:20 p.m. This is the time that we finally get to farewell Mr Stuart Wilcox. We ask that all parents please wear a face mask if coming to assemblies.
Enjoy the long weekend ahead
