Message from the Highfield School Board:
Kia ora koutou. Our first Board meeting for the year was held on Thursday 3rd Feb.
Firstly, we would like to welcome to our newest Board Member - Rebecca Campbell - who we co-opted on Thursday to increase the skills and expertise on our board. Rebecca has a background in Human Resources, and she has 3 children at Highfield, soon to be 4. It’s great to have you as part of our team!
Much of our discussion was around Mr. Wilcox’s news that unfortunately he will be leaving Highfield at the end of Term One to start a new role at Opihi College.
On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank Stuart for the time he has spent leading our school and making it the awesome place it is today. We will of course farewell Stuart properly at the end of term but for now we would like to reassure everyone on what happens next.
Mr. Wilcox will continue to lead the school with his usual commitment, drive and positivity until the end of term, along with the support of our DP Mrs. Cooper and the Senior Leadership Team.
We have started the new Principal Appointment process, however as you can imagine this can take some time, so we are thankful to Mrs. Cooper for agreeing to be our Acting Principal in Term Two if we have not been appointed the right candidate to become our new Principal by then. We know the school will be in excellent hands during this transition.
IMPORTANT! To help us in this process we need our school community to tell us what qualities you think our new Principal should have. Please look out for a short survey which will be sent via HERO this week and complete as soon as possible, or you can email the Board directly at board@highfield.school.nz
We also spent some time talking through the school’s Covid response plan, and the board is happy with how this is being managed so far. There is a lot of information from the MOE that needs to be read through and interpreted, and this often changes as the situation develops, so please be patient and understanding! Most importantly is keeping our staff and students safe so that we can keep our school open for as long as possible in the event of community transmission in the area.
The Board Triennial elections will be held in September 2022, so start having a think about if this is something you might be interested in putting yourself forward for. It’s a great way to become more involved in your child’s school.
Have a great week!
Fiona
