Attendance Procedures
It is legally required that staff monitor student attendance and keep accurate records. This includes keeping notes of contacts with parents. Teachers record and update attendance on the KAMAR computer programme.
Attendance Procedures (STAR)
Less than 5 days absence in a term or above 90%
Clear communication to parents on attendance expectations
Rapid Teachers monitor attendance
Maintain up to date contact information
Regular updates to students on their attendance
Up to 10 days absence in a term or 80 - 90%
Rapid Teachers contact home and add a Pastoral Entry on Kamar
Rapid Teachers refer the student to the Dean if needed, within two weeks of making contact
Rapid Teachers follow up barriers to attendance e.g. uniform
Up to 15 days absence in a term or 70 - 80%
Deans meet with student and contact home
Deans work with student and whānau to create an attendance support plan
Deans review plan and refer students to Student Engagement Officer (SEO) as needed
15 days or more absence in a term or less than 70%
Student Engagement Officer (SEO) implements and monitors individual attendance improvement plans
SEO refers students to Blue Light or the Attendance Service as needed
SEO meets with Senior Leader in charge of attendance to triage and find next step solutions, including multi-agency response
Students who are not returning to school are unenrolled
Senior Leadership Team
Regular review of the Attendance Management Plan
Monitor the Attendance Threshold List on a weekly basis and refer students to the Deans as needed
Liaise with external agencies e.g. Northern Health School, Blue Light, Alternative Education providers, etc
Ensure parents are notified of their child’s attendance rate at each stage of the STAR
Attendance administration team
Send absence notifications to caregivers
Code absence correctly
Follow up unentered / incorrect attendance with teachers
Send absence report summaries to Rapid teachers
Unenroll students as needed
