Otumoetai Exchange 2024

Ben Kennedy —

Hillcrest High and Otumoetai College have resurrected an exchange that has not happened between the two schools for approximately 30 years!

Hillcrest had just under 200 students take part in the exchange as part of 16 teams from football, netball, basketball, hockey, badminton and rugby. The whole ethos from our side was about promoting opportunities for more of our student athletes to represent our school as a way to grow pride and school culture.

Jo'el Komene, Otumoetai Deputy Principal, has carved an amazing taonga that will be competed for between the two schools for years to come. This pou whenua was blessed at the poowhiri in the morning and will no doubt be a valued trophy for each school to display.

Despite the weather being very changeable throughout the day, students from both schools demonstrated a wide range of skills and values that as a school we are very proud of. The way that the schools came together to celebrate young people competing and being involved in sport was amazing!

Overall, Otumoetai took out the exchange 9 games to 8, however Hillcrest had a range of amazing results and the experience is something that our teams and individuals will benefit from in the future. See the individual results below.
