Girls 1st XI -The Girls 1st XI are closing out the season in great form, building momentum as they head toward the National Tournament in Nelson. Under the leadership of Year 13 captain Maddy Kay, the team has achieved impressive victories against Hamilton Girls High School 1st XI, Waikato Diocesan, and capped July with a resounding 5-0 win over St Peters School Girls 1st XI. The team eagerly anticipates a challenging pool at the tournament, facing Baradene College, Palmerston North Girls High School, and Queen's High School. We wish Head Coach Greg, Manager Lee, and the girls all the best for Nelson!
Senior Girls 2nd XI - Coached by Olivia Hooper, the Senior Girls 2nd XI has made significant strides after a tough series of grading games. Despite an initial 4-1 loss to Huntly Thistle AFC, the team bounced back, currently sitting 2nd on the table with a remarkable goal difference of 34 and 15 league points. With a potential Top 4: Bottom 4 split on the horizon, the “SG 2nd’s” are determined to continue their winning streak and finish the season on a high note.
Junior Premier Girls - The Junior Premier Girls have enjoyed an outstanding season, dominating both the Saturday league and the knockout cup. The team is at the top of the table, unbeaten since a narrow loss at the beginning of Term 2. Their success is attributed to their work ethic, passion, and commitment to each other. The team continues to train and play with intensity, making their mark on the league.
Junior Girls Navy and Gold Teams - The Junior Girls Navy team is also having an impressive season, leading their league with 18 points and an astounding 38 goals scored. They started August with a strong 6-1 win over Sacred Heart Junior Development and are focused on maintaining their top position. The Junior Girls Gold team, playing in the same league, has shown perseverance and determination, and they aim to finish the season on a positive note.
Boys 1st XI - The Boys 1st XI kicked off Term 3 with an impressive 1-1 draw against St Peters, who currently sit 2nd on the table. This match showcased the team’s commitment to their ‘pride and passion’ mantra, with goalkeeper James Black delivering phenomenal saves and top goal scorer Tyler Yu netting a stunning goal. Despite a 4-2 defeat to Cambridge High School at Gower Park, the team is eager for a rematch in pool play at the upcoming Malcolm Cowie Tournament in Whangārei, where they will also face Papakura High School and Glendowie College. Coach Michael Groom highlights the tremendous talent and potential within the team, with plenty still to play for this season. Best of luck in Whangārei!
Boys 2nd XI - Coached by Luke Kennedy, the Boys 2nd XI has shown remarkable resilience after a challenging start to the season. Notable achievements include a 3-1 victory over Waihi after a previous 7-2 defeat and a dramatic comeback in their knockout game against Matamata, which they won on penalties after trailing 2-0 with just 10 minutes to go. The team has made significant improvements and eagerly anticipates their next knockout match against St Paul’s.
Senior Boys Navy - The Senior Boys Navy team, coached by John Ward, is at the top of their league with 18 points and an impressive 53 goals scored. The team has demonstrated enthusiasm and passion throughout the season, traveling to matches as far as Taumarunui and Morrinsville. A recent 5-3 win over Morrinsville Senior Boys 2nd XI has brought them closer to clinching the league title.
Boys Junior Premier - The Boys Junior Premier team, under the guidance of Coach Luke Ashby, ended Term 2 on a high with consecutive wins in both league and cup games. Although Term 3 began with tough losses against the top teams (HBHS and Rototuna), the boys' commitment to improving their playstyle has led to recent victories over Matamata and HCS. The team is developing a positive, quick-tempo style of play, positioning them as strong contenders in both the league and the cup.
Junior Boys Development - Coached by Mitchell Roe, the Junior Boys’ Development Team saw Term 3 bring a fresh start with new coaches and structure, leading to a 3-2 victory in their first game of the term. Despite a tough 12-3 defeat, the team quickly bounced back with a 4-1 win, embodying the Hillcrest High School values of Respect, Aim, and Persevere. This group of young men shows great promise for the future, with fantastic footballers and emerging leaders.
