Highlighting the success of our Māori Ākonga. The following messages of whakamihi come from our kaiako!

Estelle Warahi - Ngāti Maniapoto

This message comes from Mrs Simmonds
Estelle has been absolutely smashing it in Art this term!

We are currently working on a surrealism unit where students modelled abstract forms out of plasticine clay, photographed them and then drew from the photographs. Estelle has demonstrated her understanding of drawing 3D forms using a range of shading techniques. Her work is not only amazing but she gets through it quickly. I'm so impressed with her skill and work ethic.

Level 1 Media Studies students: Nathan Karatau, RJ Pedersen, Jodeci Walker and Conrad Joyce are working towards producing an interest story to support the Litter System at HHS.  This is a fusion of a Social Studies standard and a Visual Arts standard - but done through a Media Studies lens.  Other students who feature in this project are: Sidney Mabbett, Rahera Kani & Kyah Faiers who will voice their opinion about this system.  The completed work from them and the rest of the L1 Media Studies class will be screened and available early Term 2.

Students are working through the production process effectively making creative choices as a group.

The following message is from Mrs Selby

When I was talking to one of our students at the end of the day, my son arrived from his primary school to go home.

I introduced the two boys and our student said hello and shook my son's hand.

I was very impressed that our student did that.  Our student showed a great level of respect in that encounter and great modeling for my younger son. I was very proud of our student and appreciated what he did.

These students have been putting in COUNTLESS hours for our school production of FAME. Elliot is in the cast and the other students have been helping with crew. This consists of hours of rehearsal in weekends, after school and evenings that finish around 10.30pm most nights during the show weeks. Legends!

These students are a role model to their peers in Science. Currently we are studying Forces and Motion, a topic that involves a lot of formulae and calculations.

The girls have leant in to the challenge and are showing initiative and perseverance. Their mature approach is unrivaled in the class and I am super excited to see how the year in Science will unfold for them!
