Te Iti o Haua Marae

Our year 9 students had the opportunity to visit Te Iti o Haua Marae in Tauwhare for the day to connect to the mana-whenua of our kura.

Each day began with a traditional pōwhiri followed by traditional Māori activities such as marae exploration, rākau, tititorea and harakeke flax weaving. Students also learned about our school haka, that they will continue to learn throughout the year. Overall, it was a busy and energetic week of Marae visits for our year 9s and their Hauora teachers who accompanied them. It was great bonding for the year 9s as they begin to connect with each other within their Hauora classes.

Special thanks to Whaea Caseymia Hawkins and the year 12 peer support leaders for the manaakitanga to host, feed and well run activities at the Marae.
