Every year we have number of students being awarded university scholarships, and 2023 our students have continued with their successes.

On the 17th of October we held our annual Maaori Success Evening. It was an excellent night full of inspiration, laughter and aroha. It was a true celebration of all of the successes of our Maaori tauira (students) this year. Well done to all of the award recipients.

We celebrated a very successful year of the Arts on Thursday 19th October.

Four shows of " Mahi Tahi , Working Together" were performed on the 15th and 16th November.

This year we changed our end of year programme to provide new and exciting activities for our Junior students to try.

On the weekend of October 21 the Hillcrest High School Chess team travelled to Auckland for the Chess Power National Championships.

The Art Celebration day was a great success with students, whanau and teachers coming to view the L1 and L2 Art boards in the Auditorium. A great opportunity to share the effort, determination and creative talents of our visual artists!

The Bollywood group have worked hard during the year to choreograph their performances holding practices during school term breaks, and this has resulted in the various community performances.

Two students from Hillcrest High Year 10 student Delilah Wake-Willers and Year 9 student, Bhavrisha Deo have been published in Issue 33 of Toitoi Magazine, a journal for young writers and artists.

Monday 30th October, and Wednesday 1st November Year 10 Economics and Enterprise students (EES) made magic where business planning and lots of hard work culminated in successful sales and lots of fun.

On 12th September, nine lucky Year 10 female students from Digital Technology classes had an opportunity to meet tech professionals and to experience what working in the tech sector is like. It was a part of ShadowTech program which is organised by TechWoman.

Hillcrest High School History/Social Studies teacher and Teacher in Charge of Hockey, Richard Baggs, has been recognised for his massive contribution to the sport.

Louie has run an outstanding 2000m steeplechase over the weekend to win the NZ secondary school title by a huge 9 seconds over his nearest competitor.

The 2023 junior volleyball season ended positively with our Senior Boys Team coming 3rd in NZ and both of our premier junior teams achieving at the Division One Level of the North Island Championships.

Our cricketers have had a great Term 4 season with our girls and junior development boys putting out some good performances. Our First XI boys have again qualified for the Division 1 final which is to be played this weeked.

This years exchange was very successful and involved 142 Hillcrest students plus 20 staff members and coaches.

Jin Boyd (Sport Captain 2023) was selected to play for the Waikato-Maniapoto Wahine A team at the recent National Maaori Hockey Tournament held at Palmerston North over Labour Weekend.

Another successful season for HHS Futsal. We had 11 teams entered in the Waikato competition, each team developing their skills and achieving well in their league. Two highlights were our two title wins.
