Sports Reminders

A few reminders to ensure that our sports are operating effectively.

One of the most important factors with signing up for a sports team is commitment. This means turning up to your trainings and games almost every time and showing the team, caoch and manager the respect they deserve by communicating on those very few occasions when you are sick or have an important event to attend which means you cannot be at sport. We have too many players who are letting down their teams by not being fully committed and failing to communicate effectively.

Probably the next most important factor is how we respect the opposition and particularly the referees. As a school, we want to be remowned for showing great sportsmanship on the playing surface regardless of the outcome of the game. We expect all our players to be gracious winners and losers and respect the officials for the time they are giving up so you can participate in sport. We also expect our parents to be great supporters from the sideline by being positively vocal while also letting the officials and coaches to do the job they have stepped up for. Please keep your advice for players, officials and coaches to yourself.

We would love to see a sporting culture at Hillcrest where individuals understand that they are representing their school first, their team next and then themselves as an individual. We encourage students (and whaanau) to get out and support other teams and players as much as they can so there is a real pride in our school being generated. Students should be proud to represent and support Hillcrest High School and should do this in a positive and respectful way at the same time.

The majority of our sports uniform is owned by the school. There seems to be some confusion regarding this as lots of uniform from previous seasons has not been returned to us. Unless you have been asked to purchase uniform (eg netball dress), you are required to return the uniform to the school clean and and a good state so it can be used for the next season. If you have any uniform (particularly Paladin brand) at home please return it to the sports office asap. Please also ensure that you are only wearing the uniform that has been supplied to you, without extras.

Fees are another concern. There is a substantial amount of unpaid fees from previous years that is putting pressure on our sports department to be able to offer a good experience for our students. We want to be able to supply top quality equipment, uniform and coaching so players are able to focus on having fun, improving and learning new skills for life. Reminders and invoiuces are regularly sent to parents, please ensure that you are keeping up to date with payments and if there are any issues please contact us as we are more than happy to assist where we can.
