Who remembers 1981? The ill fated Springboks Tour, the infamous underarm bowling incident, NZ opera singer Kiri Te Kanawa singing at the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana, the longest running number one single of the year was Physical by Olivia Newton John.

Also it was the year of the attached Hillcrest High School Newsletter. Among the list of new teachers you may spot a familiar name, Mr Whiting! 

My favourite bit is about the knitting wool suggestion, what colour was Suede?


Thanks to a local Matangi business owner, who purchased a suitcase and found the newsletter inside, we can catch a glimpse of life at Hillcrest High School 42 years ago.
