Jnr Girls Prem Football have a great season

Our Junior Girls Premier team were very unlucky not to win any trophies this season after they made it to half-time in the WSSFA Junior Girls Knockout Cup final with the score still 0-0 against a very strong HGHS team.

They also missed out on the WSSFA Junior Girls Division 1 title on the final day by goal difference (goals scored minus goals conceded) to HGHS after having the same Win/Draw/Loss record. Some of the highlights included an 11-1 win against SHGC in which we only had 9 players for the entire 2nd half, an 11-0 win over Division 2 winners Te Awamutu and a 12-0 win over HPC in the Knockout Cup semi-final.

The Junior Girls Development team achieved a very well deserved third place finish in WSSFA Junior Girls Division 2, with an 11-0 victory over Dio, a 6-2 victory over HGHS and a 0-0 draw against division winners Te Awamutu amongst the highlights.

Using a mixture of Junior Premier and Junior Development players throughout this season to cover illness, injury, and the Great Barrier Experience, the Junior Girls Premier team have scored seventy-seven goals and conceded just sixteen, eight of which were against the same HGHS team we played on Saturday. All but two of our thirty-one players within the Junior Girls football programme at Hillcrest High School this year have taken an opportunity to play for the Junior Girls Premier team during the season, with the other two players only missing out on an opportunity due to illness and/or injury.Thank you to the families of the players for your amazing support this season, you made the atmosphere at every game great, provided first-aid, and braved the weather like absolute champions.

Special acknowledgement for Stu Murphy (Junior Premier manager/ref), Matthew Bryant (Junior Development manager/ref), Andrew Parsons (Junior Development coach), Greg Hobson (Director of Coaching Girls Football), Josh Groom (Director of Football), Bruce Fleming (Sports Coordinator) & Ben Kennedy (Director of Sport) for their constant support in making this season a success for our girls.
