Samantha Young - National Title Winner in Dance

Christina Perring —

Samantha Young recently gained the national title for her dancing skills in Auckland's Velocity Nationals Dance Competition.

The lovely Year 10 Hillmorton High School Dance student, Samantha Young went to the Velocity Nationals in Auckland last week, and she won the 13-14 age group National Title. Samantha auditioned in the accelerated dancer section. She had to learn a piece of choreography and perform it for the judges. She got picked to go through to the finals Gala on Sunday night with two other dancers in her age group.

She already had two nominations to dance in the Gala from the Christchurch Regional Jazz (director’s choice) and hip hop (outstanding choreography). For winning the overall Intermediate Section Samantha won a scholarship and placement at Tiptonic’s Artist Development Programme in Auckland and a video/photo shoot.

On Sunday before the Gala she performed six of her solos, where she accomplished 1st Place in Jazz, 2nd Place in Lyrical, 3rd Place in Contemporary, 1st Place Own Choreography, 2nd Place Hip Hop, and 1st Place Tap! Wow!

Congratulations from your Horomaka whānau Samantha!   We are all so blown away with your talent and achievement.
