Financial Literacy
Financial Literacy for all Year 13
Kia ora
As part of the Year 13 weekly hui, students have recently been introduced to Banqer High. Banqer High Senior is an online platform that prepares students for life after school.
Designed for Years 12–13, Banqer encourages student agency and provides a safe space to practise financial decision-making. Students learn about the relationship between financial decisions and wellbeing, and have the chance to course-correct any poor choices along the way. They’ll earn wellbeing points as they make different decisions – including which accommodation to rent, which meal plan to buy, and even what leisure activities they choose. As in real life, students must navigate unexpected events such as housemates not doing their chores, transport dilemmas, or flood damage at their rental.
Largely student-led and self-paced, the platform simulates decisions around leaving home, enrolling in study, managing a budget, and earning an income. By the time they complete the programme, students will have all the crucial financial skills needed to navigate life after school.
Please engage with your young person and get them to show you the platform and learning activities they are completing.
