TAPA Performance at Te Pae

HHS —

On Friday 16th September some of the students from the TAPA class had the honour of performing at the 2022 New Zealand Principals' Association (NZPA) September. The conference was held at the newly completed Christchurch Convention Centre - Te Pae. The students' performance was well received by Principals who were in attendance at the three day annual conference. Students at Hillmorton have the choice to opt into TAPA, which is a class designed to enable students to explore Pacific Language, Culture and Identity. Part of that journey has been supported by the team at Tama Mai Saute under the direction of Albany Peseta whose mentorship has supported learning of Pacific Culture through the medium of dance.

A combination of Samoan and Tongan dances were featured in the performance, with some being choreographed by students in the TAPA class. Students were grateful for the opportunity to perform at such a prestigious event. Our TAPA performers were fabulous ambassadors for our kura. It was a very proud moment for all involved.
