Congratulations! Luke Street

Luke wins the final 1500m race at the Australian Open

Luke skated a very good race, using excellent tactics, to win the event. The Aussie commentators have dubbed Luke "The Flying Mullet". Luke is planning on donating his hair to wig making for cancer patients. When the commentators heard that, it was the feel good story of the event!

Luke Street is the Australian Open Junior B (15-16 yrs) Men's short track speed skating champion for 2023! He competed October 6-8 in Melbourne, Australia at the Docklands O'Brien Icehouse.
Skating up an age division (Luke is 14), Luke won all 4 distances (500m, 777m, 1000m, 1500m) to take the title. He also brings home the Australian Junior B relay title with his Canterbury team mates.
We are very proud of his efforts, as he skated using his brain and his body, making excellent race decisions, setting up clean passes, and sprinting when he needed to.
Luke has made the International Skating Union (ISU) qualifying times for Junior World Cups and Junior World Championships, but as a 14 year old, he is too young to compete. He looks forward to representing New Zealand next season
