Cando Card Update

In the second half of 2024, Environment Canterbury will be the first to launch the new National Ticketing Solution (NTS) for public transport. This will replace all existing Metrocards, including the Cando card. Cando cards will continue to be accepted on Metro services until the NTS is launched. We will keep you updated on the launch date for NTS and provide more information as we get closer to roll out.

What is the NTS?

The NTS will simplify payment for public transport around New Zealand. Customers will be able to pay for their public transport using contactless debit or credit cards, digital payments like Google Pay, as well as a NTS pre-paid card. Canterbury will be the first region to implement the NTS in the second half of 2024.

Will Cando cards still exist?

Metro will continue to recognise the Cando card as a form of ID and proof of age.

Port Hills Karate

The Port Hills Karate club will be starting classes for Term 1 2024 on Monday the 5th of February. We’re a small, family-friendly karate club located at the St Martins Anglican Church gym on Lincoln Road where we foster and encourage students to learn and practice karate techniques with an emphasis on good form, posture and biomechanics in a safe and respectful environment.  Karate is a Japanese martial art that involves strikes, blocks and kicks in a series of pre-arranged forms that are also used for sparring. It's a great way to increase self-confidence, improve agility and flexibility, and learn and practice a challenging sport for self defence and for competition style karate.  We run two classes per week - one on Monday afternoons at 4:30 through to 5:30 aimed primarily at those starting out with Karate, and one on Thursday evenings from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. Parents are able to train for free in the Monday afternoon classes and there is a 15% discount if two or more family members join up. More information can be found at: http://www.porthillskarate.nz/, or by contacting Tyrone at porthillskarate@gmail.com.
