Hillmorton Tigers Hockey

Lisa Owen —

The Hillmorton First XI Hockey are well into the season now with 7 games under their belt.

The last 3 weeks have seen great improvements in technical skills as the young players are developing confidence on the turf after 2 wins and a loss in recent games.

3rd August - an evenly matched game against Avonside Girls Development team ended with a Hillmorton win 3-0.  The game was held at Avonside with large support for the local team. Our defensive line worked hard to hold off relentless attack and pressure. Two fabulous goals from Hannah Hogan who was hanging high in the circle in the late stages of the game secured a great win for the team.

10th August - up against a stronger team the girls were challenged physically and technically. They continued to give their best effort and pushed on throughout the game. Middleton Grange took a well deserved win on the night.

17th August - it was our second match against Riccarton 2nd XI.  This season the game got off to an exciting and competitive start.  Riccarton played the first half with no goalie and the score at half time was tied at 2-2.  Moving through the second half, Hillmorton stayed strong holding onto the ball and had multiple runaways and defended shots on goal. Success came later in the match with 2 penalty corners well executed and a switch in our offensive line up. Team Captain and Fullback, Holly Fry, moved into the striker position for the first time this season and finished the match outclassing the Riccarton defense and scoring her first goal of the season!
