5 Hillmorton Teams qualifying for the EPro8 Finals - Fission Chips Win!

Liz Williams —

Only the top 12 teams in Canterbury can qualify for the finals at each competition level. This year four Year 11-13 teams, and one Y9-10 team made it to their respective regional engineering and problem-solving finals event.

Sponsored by Holmes Solutions, the EPro8 finals this year took the experience to a whole new level. Teams were given a tour of the state-of-the-art engineering firm and saw first hand how problem-solving, design and engineering can literally change the world and how we do things.

At the end of the tour, beneath the giant zip-line and amongst the engineering machines, the competition took place.

This years engineering challenges had a rock concert theme and had students building speakers, spotlights, drum-kits and crowd control systems.

The competition was intense, and at different points of the events our teams enjoyed some time at the top of the table.

Congratulations to our team "Fission Chips"  who became the Y11-13 regional champions.

John Hunter, Jerry Tan, Bethan Edwards & William Begg were able to draw on their years of ePro8, eVolocity, robotics and engineering experience to complete the event challenges faster than any of the other finalists.

Well done to all our Epro8 participants this year. We entered 12 teams from Year 7 to 13. Every team managed to build a range of beautiful engineering solutions for their challenges.
