Learning how to work an espresso machine

HHS —

Most ākonga think a STAR Barista course is just about making coffee, but you have to also learn about coffee types and the difference between beans.

After experiencing two days learning barista skills and completing two workbooks, the ākonga feel they earned the NCEA Level 2 & 3 credits that were offered on the course. The ākonga enjoyed the environment at Vision College, found the instructors friendly and knowledgeable and liked each day's layout.

When asked who should take this course, some replies were:

  • ‘I'd recommend young people looking to get part-time jobs in a cafe to take this course because the information is easy to comprehend and apply.’
  • ‘... anyone genuinely interested in being a barista because making the coffees is really fun but most of the time it is bookwork about coffee beans and parts of the machine that an actual barista-interested person would need to know.’
  • ‘It may be beneficial for a job or just having the experience in a course.’
