What is it like on a school board?

HHS —

An opportunity to understand what it is like on a school board - elections in September

Kia ora

I am writing to you on behalf of the Hillmorton High School Board. My name is Suzie Sauer and I have been on the Board for six years now. It is a really rewarding role to have where you can engage as much or as little (a minimum of one meeting each month with preparation time) to suit you and your circumstances. You get the chance to impact the lives of over 1000 young people, to help shape education for the future and to support our hard working and dedicated team of staff at school.

An interesting point to note is that board meetings are public and anyone may attend, it's a good way to see our Board in action. Our meeting dates for the next two terms are:

  • 23 May
  • 27 June
  • 29 August
  • 26 September

New Zealand School Trustees Association (NZSTA) is the organisation that supports and trains board members. They have easily accessible training and resources available to assist you in your role and they are on call to help. They have put together this session for anyone interested in learning more about being on a board.

Enrol as soon as possible to secure your space by following this link.

See below for more information on the course or connect with me directly on sauers@hillmorton.school.nz if you would like more information about being on the Board.

About this event

The triennial School Board Elections will be held in September this year. This webinar is designed to provide members of the public with an opportunity to find out more about what it means to be a school board member and to answer any questions you have about the election process and board member role. During the session you will have the opportunity direct questions to a panel of experienced school board members and NZSTA advisors.

These session is open to anyone with an interest in school governance.
