Junior Boys Basketball
This year we attended the junior boys premier south Island tournament. The goal again for this year was to win and we finally did. The boys went undefeated in pool play and got a game off and went to the swimming pools.
Our quarter finals was against Kaiapoi and we prevailed and ended up winning but it was a tough game. Our semi final was against a tough St.Bedes team with determination and grit we snuck a win by three. The final was against a very tough Nelson College team and boys got it done! 77-71.
Huge thank you Dave and Dilly for coaching us and special shout out to Allan Majendie for recording all of our games this season and at the tournament.

Senior Boys Basketball
Tournament was full of ups and downs. We had a tough first day going up against two of the top 4 teams St Andrews College and Christ College. We just fell short against St Andrews in the morning we left everything on the floor and then in the afternoon we had to vs the reigning Thomson trophy
champs and ended up losing by 80.
Day 2 was a new day. We started off against a well balanced Timaru Boys high team. It was back and forth all game and then ended up losing in overtime. In the afternoon we had a nice and easy win against Ashburton. Our last pool was against a physical John McGlashan team. We just got the win in the end. In our afternoon match up we had a 9-16th playoff game against the rivals down the road Cashmere, we ended up just losing by 6. On day 4 we started our day off quite slow with tiredness and some sickness but we still played hard against a good Kaiapoi team which we ended up losing in overtime again. To finish off our tournament we played another physical team James Hargest we had a great win to send our senior player Seth Charlton off. We also had a lot of fun off the court. Walking through the botanical gardens, team games, making new friends, so many great memories were made. Big thanks to Coaches Dave Langrell and Dilshan Muthunaidelage for making this tournament happen and coaching us this whole season

Senior Girls Netball
The senior netball girls had a tournament to remember here at home in Christchurch. We came out with a bang with two strong wins on the first day, including one nail biting game against Amuri which the girls pulled back in the last quarter after trailing the whole game. As the bodies began to tire we faced some strong teams and unfortunate losses on the second day, but still made the top 16.
An undeniable highlight of the tournament came on the third day in our game against a top 5 Papanui team, where some of our season's best netball was displayed on court and we came away with a well fought draw, 40 all. After being down to nine players after day one the girls can be so proud of a 15th place finish, with a win to cap off the season on the last day . None of this was
possible without the help of the amazing Jenny and Annalise so our biggest thanks go to them.
With no leaving year 13s the future of Hillmorton netball is bright and we’ll be back next year for that top 8 finish!! Go tigers!”

Senior Girls Hockey
“This year the hockey girls first Xl competed in the Jenny MacDonald Cup in Ashburton. This was an intense and memorable experience that put our team to the test. Finishing 7th out of 15 teams, we navigated through our tournament with talent and fierce competition. The tournament's high level of play was particularly evident in two exceptionally close games that kept us on the edge until the final whistle. Each match was a testament to our team's skill, as we fought hard to stay in the fight and played with heart and determination. This showed evidently in the girls performance.
Throughout the tournament, our players demonstrated remarkable resilience and tactical play, managing to push through periods of intense game situations and fatigue. The experience highlighted our team's strengths bringing us closer as a team, but more importantly, it fostered a deep sense of growth within the team. While we didn’t secure a first place win, the girls finished
second in their pool and a remarkable top 8 overall. The lessons learned and the bonds created will undoubtedly serve as valuable assets in our future endeavours. The Jenny MacDonald Cup not only tested our abilities but also reinforced our resolve, laying a solid foundation for future success and
continued development.

Senior Girls Football
After a 1st place finish in Division 1 for the team in the 2023 season, the Girls’ First XI started 2024 with their first season in the Premier grade. While the girls had a rough start, losing their first game 8-0, they kept up the fizz and proved they deserved their spot in Prems, only losing to the top of the table 3-1.
Despite the tough season, the team was keen to redeem themselves at the first football tournament the girls had ever been to. For the national tournament week, Mr Jarvie and Mrs Chappell took the girls up to Blenheim for the Gary Sowden Tournament. The girls came out top of their pool and made it all the way to the semifinals! While the team lost 3rd place playoffs, taking 4th out of 16
teams, it was an incredible opportunity for the girls to show everyone what they’re made of. We saw some incredible football, some not so incredible dancing, and all round had a memorable season.
Can’t wait to see what happens next year!
Massive thank you to our coach Jarvie and manager Chappell for all their mahi this season.

U15 Boys' Rugby
The Horomaka Tigers Year 10 team ( U15s) attended the Rural Livestock South Island U15 tournament in Prebbleton from September 2nd- 4th. 30 teams from around the South Island attended and were comprised of school teams, rural teams, and representative teams.
We played five games over three days and had a tough pool of which the other three teams made the semi-finals and two made the final. Our two best performances were against the Central Southland Rep team who went on to win the final and the Amberley team who had recently won the North Canterbury and Ellesmere U15 Championship. Both of these teams complimented us on our performance and our composure.
For many of the boys, this was their first time at a rugby tournament, all the players grew from the experience and the team told us they were excited about the 2025 Rugby Season!
A big thanks to our Coaches, Corey Counihan, Jason Blake, Shannon Harrison, and Cliff Young, and to the parents who came out to support us.
Rugby League Nationals
We formed a team with Hornby High School three months ago to go up to the secondary nationals in Auckland. We joined a comp down here to get us ready before we went up to Auckland. We set ourselves 2 goals, not come last and try to make top 8 in our grade. And we completed both coming 6th out of 23 teams.
We left on Thursday last week, when we got off the plane we had some breakfast then went down to a field to train, the rest of the day was just us chilling and getting ready for our first 2 games the next day. On Friday we played our first game at 12pm v Papatoetoe high school where we won 14-6. Our
second game we v Whangaparaoa where we won 28-6. Saturday we played westlake boys where we lost 34-0, we were all a bit disappointed about this loss because it meant we were out of the top 4 but our next game against Otahuhu College we picked our heads up and we won that game 26-10, this meant that we were playing our last game against St Bedes for 5th and 6th on Sunday. Sunday was our last day in Auckland and our last game where we lost 28-0, we were a bit disappointed about it at first but realised we made this team only 3 months ago and some of us had never played league before so we had something to be really proud of to come 6th out of the 23 teams. We did
ourselves proud and achieved the 2 goals we set for ourselves.

Senior Boys Hockey
At the Oamaru hockey tournament, our school team earned a solid 9th place after a series of tough games. We were proud to move up a division, showing how far we’ve come. After our matches, we enjoyed relaxing in the Oamaru pools, which was a great way to bond as a team. Even though we didn’t make it to the top spots, the experience was fun, and we are excited to go again next year.
Thanks to all the people involved in the school helping out, and thanks to Mr Sharr and Mrs Naylor for overseeing the tournament”

Senior Girls Basketball
The senior girls basketball team this year has been a massive step up from any year we have seen before. We competed in our first senior tournament as the majority of a young year 11 group. We faced many great competitors, many in Lincoln Whelan Division 1 and frequent foes through the regular season. We put up a fight to some of these bigger teams, but ultimately struggled due to
fatigue in the third quarters of our games. We took some convincing wins to Middleton, who are rivals during the season, and these games gave us all a chance to try out some new skills and plays that we had practiced in the season. Even though we only had 8 players for most of the tournament,
we all ran well and completed some of our personal goals. We were all grateful for Ruby, making an effort to come from the netball tournament for our last couple of games, which injected some energy into our team. However, we were all saddened that Bri would not be competing in the second half of the tournament due to a concussion that occurred in our very first game. Eva, our
only year 13 played her very last high school game during our final match against Ashburton. We all love Eva and wish her the best for her future! Huge thank you Mrs Mortimer and Mr Ferguson for coaching and managing us

Speed Skating Championships
This past weekend, Luke Street competed in Dunedin at the New Zealand National Short Track Speed Skating Championships. Luke competed in 4 individual races in his age group, Junior B (15-16 years) - the 500m, 777m,
1000m, 1500m - placing 2nd overall, after receiving a penalty in the 500m heats.
Luke also competed in the Open 3000m (27 laps), in a field including an ex Olympian, and it was an exciting race. 1000m in, Luke sprinted away from the main group, eventually catching the back of the bunch to take a lap. Luke won the race in an impressive fashion! He is now the Open 3000m National Champion! Luke and his Canterbury team mates, also won the 3000m relay, winning by an impressive 3 laps over the two Auckland teams in the final.
Next, Luke is off to the Australian Open in Melbourne, in the October school holidays.
Many thanks to the coaches, managers and staff who have given time to support these teams throughout the season and over the past week. We really appreciate all that you contribute to our teams. Keep an eye out for teams recap from tournaments.
