Biology Camp at Wainui

Pam Hunt —

Level Two and Three Biology travelled to Wainui for the annual Biology camp, to investigate the quality of the streams in the surrounding area and the organisms present on the rocky shore.

Students in Level Three Biology were very lucky to receive equipment from the University of Canterbury and WaterWatch Canterbury to take a more thorough analysis of the nutrients found in the streams, including nitrates and phosphates. This was greatly appreciated by the students.

The Level Two Biology students observed a number of patterns on the rocky shore during low tide, saw the sunrise from the beach and even spotted a dolphin or two!

Students returned with a more in-depth understanding of practical Biology, and puku ngārara from all of the baked goods consumed!
