Jack Wells took the opportunity to try a Blue Light Life Skills Camp at Burnham in the first week of Term 3. He thoroughly enjoyed the experience and learned a number of useful life skills. Each day began at 6am with a march to the eating area - Jack soon learned that this was Drill and it is an essential part of any Blue Light Camp.

Jack said: Drill taught us how to march in under 4 days and 5 nights but it was not just marching, it also taught us self-discipline and self-respect. For me, Drill was a good thing and bad thing; good if I go to a Defence Force boot camp or something along those lines but bad as sometimes I would get the left and right mixed up. Especially when Staff would say ‘Stepping off to my left’. I liked learning with my campmates and getting to know them.

Jack enjoyed the chance to learn in a way that was quite different to school yet earn NCEA credits - now he has 4 Level One and 9 Level Two credits to add to his results this year. He graduated in a ceremony which was live-streamed. In this photo, he is in the back row, fourth from the right.
