Some ākonga learned new skills via a course off-site or online in the October school holidays. The courses were: Bar Tending where the practical tasks matched the written assessments (NCEA Level 1 and 3 credits); Early Childhood Careers where the importance of play was emphasized (NCEA Level 3 credits); Film-making where they worked on interesting techniques and development of a film project, while directing cast and crew (No NCEA credits offered); GirlBoss Edge: Cashflow Academy where there was one-to-one mentoring and a choice of financial challenges. They found the experiences worthwhile and suggest that others look for a STAR course they might enjoy.
