Horomaka Cricket is back!

Geordie Dann —

The Boys First XI was back in the Gillette Cup after a brief covid hiatus.

There were so many keen chaps for the boys cricket team that we had to run two trials to pick a team. Taine Parfitt in Year 13 has been elected as Captain and had a skillful squad to take on the best in Christchurch in the local round of the national competition.

Mr Jarvie took the boys down to Hospital Corner where we met Riccarton High.  Stan Baura clubbed 27 off 13 balls to give us a great win in the first game. The lads took 9 catches and a run out in an impressive fielding display.

In the second game we had a tight tussle with Papanui High and had them on the ropes until a lower order resurgence gave them the impetus going into the break. The game was in the balance halfway through our innings, but we couldn't keep up with the run rate in the end.

The third game was against Cashmere High and was expected to be difficult. We tried hard but were outclassed.

Great signs for Hillmorton Cricket with so much young talent coming through from Halswell and Sydenham. Half of the team was Year 11 or younger. The team is building well for future years.

Thanks to Dilshan for organising the balls, blazers and the rest. The boys looked great!
