EPro8 Success - Teams qualifying for the Y9/10 Finals

Liz Williams —

Hillmorton hosted the Engineering Problem Solving and Innovation competition on site during the first week of this term.

Four teams of enthusiastic problem solvers represented our school, after having prepared in a mixture of class, after school and holiday sessions. The heat consisted of 12 teams competing for three coveted positions in the finals. The night was full of excitement as our teams battled it out against 8 other teams from around the city. For two and a half hours the teams worked through a variety of engineering problems, building solar panels that turned to face a moving light, laser triggering burglar alarms, wind powered goal shooters and automated painting machines.

The scoreboard was constantly adjusting as teams earned points, with our teams battling it out in the top few for most of the night. The final result had two of our teams finish 2nd equal, 4 equal and 9th. Congratulations to all our participants. Whilst not all the teams made it through to the finals, they can all be proud of their epic fight. They were all in the battle until the very end.

Good luck to the finalists that go on to compete on Tuesday 18 May at Papanui High School.
