Senior Textiles

Emily Napolitano —

It has been a busy year for our Senior Textiles students.

In Term 1, three wonderful tutors from Rekindle spent two weeks with our seniors, teaching them 3D wet felting and harakeke weaving techniques. Our Level 1 students have made beautiful felted and woven products and I am very proud of their progress and creativity. The Level 3 students have incorporated dry felting techniques into their work as well.

Earlier in the year our seniors created lavalavas for Polyfest, expertly organised by Meleane Tauveli. More recently our Year 11 and 12 students created half-aprons for one of our Show Quest dancers. Hannah Hogan made the pattern, and the rest of the team were able to use it to create 15 professional-looking aprons for the makeup artist characters in the show. We are all very excited to learn that Hillmorton won Show Quest, and we are thrilled to have contributed to the winning effort.
