Red Cross Essential First Aid Skills

HHS —

Year 12s learn the skills to help others who may be hurt

Over two days 80 Year 12s learned the skills necessary to provide first aid help for abrasions, burns, cuts and other injuries. They were also trained in CPR and using a defibrillator. Six staff also participated so that they too can use first aid when needed.

The Red Cross educators used practical exercises to help the groups to complete the theory exercises needed to gain both the Essential First Aid certificate and the NCEA credits.

Over the two days, there were many stories shared and experiences of first aid recounted which kept the Year 12s interested and willing to try the activities. The practical exercises were enjoyed by all and there was much laughter and fun in this course.
