Hillmorton Junior Netball - Unbeaten

Ben Arnold —

The Hillmorton Junior Red netball team (a mixture of Year 9 and 10 players) has finished a successful season on a high after winning their Junior Division 2 final 28-23 against Middleton Grange

Hillmorton were unbeaten after a 7 game round robin competition. This put them straight into a final against a tough Middleton Grange Year 10 team. The game was played in extremely windy conditions on Wednesday afternoon which made it even more difficult, especially for the shooters. The team was lucky enough to have Silver Fern and Tactix player Temalisi Fakahokotau sideline to co-coach during the final. Her presence and enthusiasm gave our girls an extra spark and perhaps the winning edge.

The team got off to a slow start that saw them 4-7 down at the end of the first quarter. However, they worked together tirelessly to even up the game with the score 11-12 at half time and then tied up at 18 all by the end of the third quarter. In the final quarter everyone stepped up a gear with our focus and intensity putting pressure on the opposition throughout the court. It was a tough battle against a very good Middleton Grange team but Hillmorton treasured the ball more in the blustery conditions eventually winning the final quarter 10-5.

Congratulations to the team. Amber Moates, Arabella Sanders, Ashleigh Hawken, Eva Haerewa, J’Vonte Davis Skudder, Lexi Phillips, Maddy Moore, Nevaeh-Aroha Whareumu, Ruby Friedel, Sarah Cameron.
