From the Principal's Desk

Hillmorton —

Kia ora koutou, Malo e leilei, warm greetings to you all,

I continue to be impressed by our students. The calm and respectful way in which most are behaving is impressive. Within the new building, Aonga Ake, I am very pleased with the low noise levels, conducive to improved learning and with the considerate way in which our students are moving around within the building. Despite entry and exit to the rest of the school being limited at present to one three metre gap our students are orderly. A huge thank you to our students, especially while landscaping works continue.

Ka Ora Ka Ako - Healthy School Lunches

  • We are continuing to work with our provider, staff and students to improve delivery
  • We encourage students to be adventurous and try what may be new foods
  • We also encourage everyone to continue to show our gratitude for this food
  • Feedback is being sought constantly and the provider is responding to this

Kai and Korero - Meet the Teacher Evening

Thank you to the staff for giving up an evening and to all the families who came along. Working together, the school, families, whānau and our students, will help to ensure we have a thriving school.

School Donations Programme

The school receives $150 for each student per year to help ensure we can provide an engaging and exciting curriculum at little cost to parents.

We will only ask for a contribution towards take home components, overnight trips and camps, the School Magazine and co-curricular activities such as sports.

We have received some very generous donations to help those families who can not afford these contributions. Please contact me if you do need help in this way admin@hillmorton.school.nz

Mobile Phones

Our students and staff have worked hard to ensure we are mobile phone free during school hours. The learning culture in classrooms is changing rapidly and teachers are commenting on the positive effects on student learning and engagement. We are working to ensure positive well-being outcomes, learning success, improve relationships and building our culture of connection

Be Active

We encourage students to participate in lunchtime activities. Volleyball nets have been put up on the fields. The new Middle School court outside Aonga Ake is nearly finished. All of our basketball areas are being well used. We have had a sign up for clubs and cultural activities as well as sports, and we encourage all students to get involved.

Volunteers

There is a range of opportunities for parents, whānau and community members to be involved:

  • Sports teams - coaches, managers, help with transport etc.

  • Reader/Writers for students with Special Assessment

  • Help with our school lunches

  • Helping in classes

For all volunteers working within the school we do require a Police Vetting check. Please contact us if interested in being a volunteer.

Thank You and Policy Review

Our Board members are volunteers and do a wonderful job in governing our school. They are a great support for me as Principal and they are all enthusiastic that we continue to develop as a thriving school.

Recently we joined ‘School Docs’ in terms of our school policies framework. We will soon have a link on our website for our policies within ‘School Docs’. There is a schedule of reviews and soon you will be emailed to invite you to review the ‘Home Learning’ Policy. In the meantime for those interested here is the link and details of how to log in:
