SIT Hairdressing STAR Course

HHS —

This (or the Ara STAR Hairdressing) course is recommended for anyone interested in hairdressing as a career.

This short course was for five Fridays at SIT Hornby Campus. Until the final assessment the ãkonga worked with mannequins; they learnt how to make braids, buns and fishtails in a professional manner. The tutor also used the mannequins to demonstrate cutting hair and applying foils. Then it was the turn of those on the course to try what they observed on other mannequins.

For their Level 3 NCEA assessment, all the ãkonga had to show competence in designing and producing two styles for long hair on real people. Their models were others on the course or they could invite a friend to act as their model.

This (or the Ara STAR Hairdressing) course is recommended for anyone interested in hairdressing as a career because it will give them a real taste of what learning is like in a ‘salon’. All of the ãkonga felt it was a great way to learn if they wanted to train to be a hairdresser. If this sort of course interests you, then check out the Daily Notices next year.
