Although cancelled flights and heightened alert levels looked set to cancel another event in 2020, with the Inter-regional Cross Country Event being cancelled in Wellington, South Canterbury organisers came to the rescue.

In a matter of days the Southern Schools Cross Country Blowout was confirmed, utilising the planned South Island Secondary School’s course, a challenging course involving both hill climbs and introduced obstacles.  The event was incredibly well attended, with runners from all regions including Canterbury, South Canterbury, Nelson/Tasman and Wellington as well as Otago.

One of our Year 8 students, Alyssa Buchan ran the course and in a full field for her age group, Alyssa had a strong race and finished 8th overall.
