Learn to Swim Level 2 PE Coaches

Mel Ruscoe —

Level 2 PE students have taken the wero (challenge) to become qualified with the AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety.

This qualification will enable a possible career that makes a difference to our communities. They will have an influential role that engages and interacts with students (4 years – adults) leading skills and drills that provide knowledge, skill and understanding in water safety and swimming in pools and confined natural shallow water venues.

These students were outstanding with their engagement, energy and work ethic throughout the 2 day course and are a credit to our school, whānau and communities. They spent 4 hours in the pool and 4 hours in the classroom each day learning the technique of teaching, writing lesson plans, analysing swimming strokes and practicing how to teach the levels of learning to swim.  The students will then apply their learning with our Year 7 and 8 students in Term 4 and run 10 Swimming and Water Safety lessons for our students, Tuakana Teina at its best. They are excited about working through the remainder of the qualification criteria and becoming valued members of our community.
