Y7/8 NW Netball
A boys and a girls team attended the NW Netball tournament last week at Netball Waitakere’s Te Pai courts with Ms Dassler. It was a brilliant day of Netball.
The boys started off with a 9-7 win over their arch-rivals from basketball, Waimauku. This was followed by resounding wins over Whenuapai (15-3) and Taupaki (23-1). We then faced another unbeaten team - Swanson. It was an intense game which unfortunately didn’t go our way, we lost 10-7. We then faced Royal Road and won 12-10. This meant we finished 2nd in our pool and went on to play for third and fourth overall. This game was against Colwill and it was very tough. The opposition were big, tall and skilled. But we maintained our composure and stuck to our game plan to take the win, cementing our finishing place of third overall.
The girls also had a very good day. They started off with a 17-4 win over Colwill. This was followed by a 9-7 win over West Harbour and 14-6 win over Riverhead. The last pool game was against Marina View. It was a tough one, which saw Marina View win 22-10. The team going through in second from the pool was decided on goals for and goals against and unfortunately our Hobsonville girls team missed out by one goal in qualifying for the semi-finals. Nevertheless, it was a great day of netball for the team. A big thank you goes to Lachelle Richardson for coaching the girls on the day.
A special thanks goes to Maddi Kell for giving up her time to umpire for the girls team on the day. We love having our ex-students coming back and spending time with our current Year 7 and 8s. Ms Dassler
It was a great day for us to show how much we have improved since the start of our season.
We all played to the best of our abilities and came away winning the majority of our games but ended up losing our last game against our long time rivals, Marina View. The girls showed great listening skills and amazing effort on and off the court. We all learnt how to adjust the amount of energy and power we used depending on the wind, opposition and receiver of our passes. Good job to our three shooters who had to battle the wind during our last two games.
Special thanks to all our supporters, including the boys, who cheered us on. Overall it was an amazing day and heaps of fun. We look forward to giving it our all in our next netball tournament. Hannah Y8, H27
Netball is one of my favorite North West tournaments, and I've been waiting for it all year.
We versed several schools and talented players that we haven't played before, giving us new challenges throughout the day. In our first game we beat our yearly rivals (Waimauku) and ended up only losing one game. It really showed how much we have improved through our training and how we have adapted our game to our opponents.
Doing this tournament has enhanced our: communication, perseverance and team skills, and also taught us how to adjust our game if we are playing too fast paced. I am sad to say that this will be my last North West netball tournament, but I am glad that we ended it well. Gavin C. Y8,H27
