Sports Leadership
We have now had two senior school sports leadership sessions with Mrs Selfe. This involves 30 students across Years 5-8, who have been carefully selected by their teachers for their potential leadership capabilities within the sporting realm.
The sessions will encompass the following:
- Understanding the characteristics of what makes a good athlete, and a valued team member.
- Team building activities.
- How to run a PE lesson, and running a lesson with younger students.
- Guest speakers.
- Leadership development.
In our first session we developed a word art, with ideas from the students about what the word ‘leadership’ meant to them within the sporting arena. We also did a couple of team building games including the ‘Human Knot’ and Swiss ball races.
Joseph Dawkins from Auckland United Football Club joined us in our second session. He is a full time coach for the club, has played internationally and is the Captain of the Men’s Premier Auckland United Football team. The students thoroughly enjoyed the session, which included a robust and open discussion about leadership.
