Progress and Achievement Data 2021

Anne Leitch —

The progress and achievement data was shared with the board on 1 December 2021, despite much of the year being disrupted by the Covid Lockdown.

We were very pleased to note that our data shows we have maintained the level of achievement and progress from 2020 to 2021 in Writing and Maths. Unfortunately, our Reading data shows a drop in achievement especially in Years 1 and 2.

Overall the students are achieving very well, especially our Year 8 students, where 89% achieved At or Above curriculum levels in Reading, and 90% of students achieved At or Above curriculum level in Writing.

Our biggest celebration is definitely in Mathematics, where 96% of our students achieved At or Above. The Year 7/8 group of students was consistent with their Achievement and Progress across the three curriculum areas.

Achievement of Maori Students The MOE (Ministry of Education) requires us to monitor and report on all of our Maori students. This year our Maori students showed a slight decrease in the three curriculum areas:
Reading - 7.1%.Writing -1.2% and Maths -1.7%. Maori students' achievement is strongest in Reading.

Whole School Key Competencies
We analysed our student's ability to:

1. Show Commitment to learning
2. Work and act independently

Our data showed 83% of our students are At or Above in Commitment to Learning and 79% of students are At or Above in Working and Acting Independently

Development Areas for 2022
Professional Development will continue in Maths to ensure the sustainability of professional practice and the induction of new teachers. We have secured PLD hours from the MOE to fund this facilitation for the third year.

Reading will be the focus area and we will begin an inquiry into reading for the whole school. We are introducing a Structured Literacy Programme starting with Years 1-2.

Information as to what this will look like will be sent out to our Year 1 and 2 parents.

STEAM (Science, Technology, Performing & Visual Arts & Maths ) is also a focus for 2022. We have a very exciting year ahead!!
