Taste of Summer

Dylan M., Mele F., Roman Z., Ella H. —

Our Year 6 students have been writing about what summer tastes like...

Taste of Summer
Summer was squashed into a sandwich.

It is the fresh taste of ciabatta with a touch of aioli. It is the taste of cheese and avocado and having that fresh milkshake on the side.

Summer was whipped through a smoothie.

Frozen berries, banana, spinach, frozen fruits and milk. Everything combined, you get that delicious drink.

Summer was freshly picked.

It is the sweet taste of raspberries or cherries. It is the softness of the blueberries. It is everything combined, or maybe by itself, but it tastes awesome.

Taste of Summer
Summer was slowly dripping down my shirt. It's the taste of strawberry ice cream made with freshly cut strawberries and creamy vanilla ice cream. The taste of the first sip of water on a hot, sunny day. So many different flavoured ice creams that you don't know what flavour to choose.

Summer was sizzling on the barbecue. The aroma of the smoke and the juicy red meat. It's the sound of someone opening the cool fizzy drink. The taste of the meat when you realise it's burnt.

Summer was shining on my face. It's the cool breeze collabing with your face. The salty sea water splashed onto your body and got in your eyes. The sound of kids squealing and screaming in excitement once you got to the beach.

Taste of Summer
Summer was smoked on the barbecue.

We bought the biggest piece of meat. Dad turned on the barbecue. Guests came, and then loud FFSSSSSSSHSHSHSH came after Dad had placed a piece of meat on it. First was chicken, then beef.

Summer was squeezed into a glass.

Our friend's parents drank wine and beer; the kids had apple and orange juice. Water was for everyone.

Summer was mixed in a salad.

We have our own garden. There are tomatoes, trees, and avocados. We make salads for our barbecue parties. Sometimes we cook veggies on the barbecue.

Taste of Summer
Summer was whipped in vanilla ice cream. We drove to the local dairy to get this whipped sensation. I grabbed it from the worker's hand; the ice cream dripped down my arm. I licked the ice cream from top to bottom; it tasted like a frozen creamy summer.

Summer was squeezed into a glass. Fresh lemons from the supermarket were squeezed into a glass with a sprinkle of sugar and blocks of ice. Slowly stirring it, you watch the sugar dissolve.

Summer was sizzling on a barbeque. Fresh sausages slowly start to sizzle, and oil starts to spark. Generous amounts of butter spread across the bread. You put the sausage on the bread and saturate it with mustard and tomato sauce.
