Please note ALL students (Yrs 1-8) will receive marimba and general music tuition at school in 2022, run by Mrs Ina-Marie Nel and Mrs Hayley Yoon, (qualifications below).  The Year 7 and 8  programme will run as a separate unit and as part of their tech rotation on Fridays.

Ina-Marie’ is enthusiastic and experienced in staging music performances for choir, marimba band and recorders. She enjoys arranging music and engaging learners in a creative context to build self-confidence.

MUSIC LESSONS:

In 2022 there will be a range of music lessons paid for by parents available in school time and after school:

Fun and engaging keyboard and piano lessons with Saofinao Utupapu on Fridays during school hours!

Born in Auckland and raised in Sydney, Saofinao attended the Liverpool Academy of Music and completed his AMEB Grade 8 in piano. He received his Certificate of Performance in 2015 and is currently in his third year of his Bachelor of Musical Arts at MAINZ. Other than performing solo, Saofinao has experience working with a choir and bands and has served as a live and studio session musician on various occasions.

Saofinao appreciates the importance of music in one's life and loves to share his knowledge of the piano to fuel students' musical passions.

Saxophone and clarinet lessons with Sam on Mondays during school hours!

Sam Jones studied classical saxophone at the New Zealand School of Music, where he won both the Concerto Competition and Woodwind Player of the Year. He has participated in a number of workshops in Europe, including the International Masterclass for Classical Saxophone and the European University of Sax. Sam is particularly interested in creating a great sound and mastering the fundamentals of the instrument. Passionate about live performance, Sam has performed around the country at festivals including Rhythm & Vines, Northern Bass and Highlife as part of the duo, "Samson Live". Sam also has a Grade 8 in clarinet and piano.

AJ's Music Tutoring has you covered with one-to-one lessons in drums, guitar and bass guitar on Tuesdays and Wednesdays

AJ Macfarlane is a music tutor local to Hobsonville who has been helping students achieve their musical goals and perform their best for more than five years. He completed his Masters degree in music in 2016 with a thesis focussing on individualized learning approaches, and has been guiding the new Hobsonville bands Blue Skyline Riot and Rock Lobster through their performances in 2021. Not sure what instrument will suit your child best? AJ offers a term-length Exploring Music Programme, giving students a taste of all contemporary band instruments, so they can choose where to go next!

Violin lessons with Hayley Yoon on Mondays/Thursdays

Hayley holds an Honours Performance degree from the University of Auckland. She has played in numerous orchestras including Waitakere City Orchestra, Manukau City Orchestra and was a concert master of the University of Auckland Orchestra while studying. She has gained experience in conducting and playing overseas. She has taught Music at several schools and organised groups to participate in NZCT Chamber music contest, Lewis Eady Junior Music Contest, an evening Soiree. She has also directed a Band for the School Production.She is currently a leader of Love and Peace Ensemble and a Music teacher at Hobsonville School.
