Tumuaki / Principal's Message
Kia ora community,
Week 5 has arrived very quickly!
The students are settling in and finding their place in both the inside and outside learning spaces. The first few weeks of the year can be challenging for both students and parents, as the children learn to navigate through different situations with new groups of students.
I was about to write about our philosophy at Hobsonville School when I remembered we have the below statement on our website:
“All of our children have one thing in common - they are unique! As a school we celebrate individuality and the rich diversity of our special, multi cultural community. It's our role “to ignite the light” within every one of our children, helping them to realise their full potential. We believe that learning is life-long.”
This learning happens in both inside and outside learning spaces. During interval time children navigate many new situations, challenges and difficult situations, where they learn how to navigate themselves or ask for help. This is called resourcing themselves, and children learn to become strong and agentic through these experiences if they are well supported. Our role as educationalists and parents is to talk to them about taking risks, overcoming challenges and recognising situations which are not fair or acceptable.
The Restorative Process supports this learning.
We are happy to meet to discuss this approach, and our behaviour languages with you if you require further information .
Please ensure you do spend some time looking at the website, as there is very helpful information on it.
Farewell to some of our international students today, and we hope you have loved your time at Hobsonville School.
Happy end of Week 4 and welcome in Week 5 !!
Ngā mihi
