Year 7/8 Hobsonville Point Adventure

Lauren Ambags -Y7/8 Learning Leader - H24/25 —

In Week 9, the Year 7/8 students experienced a Hobsonville Point Community adventure.

This outing connects to our Term 1 and 2 Inquiry Project based on Tūrangawaewae - Belonging and Whenua - Land. To give the students experience in different modes of transport available in our community, we travelled to Hobsonville Point either by scooter, bike, bus, or walking (the walking group walked 17,000 steps!).

We are so proud of how our students planned for the best routes with their teachers, managed different levels of risk, and supported one another to be successful and safe. This is hugely important life skill learning and we could see students demonstrating agency, responsibility and respect.

We were led by the wondering question: How does whenua/land become a great community? Students observed, explored, sketched, took notes on, discussed and evaluated different elements of community design, parks and interactive facilities that they were interested in.

Thank you so much to our whānau volunteers who made this trip possible. In Term 2, we will be going back out into the local community with the intention of giving back and demonstrating kaitiakitanga, through a house competition cleaning bee and gifting of art pieces to local gardens.

Please consider joining us yourself or encouraging someone in your whānau to join us for this next adventure!
