We trust you had a lovely break from school routines over the summer holiday, and enjoyed the warm weather. It was wonderful to catch up with most of you at our ‘Meet the Teacher’ sessions before school started. We believe that these meetings were a valuable way for us to get to know you and your child, and gain an insight into how they learn best and their learning needs. If you were unavailable to meet with your child’s teachers, please arrange a time to see them as soon as convenient.
Our school day begins at 8.50am and we request that our tamariki arrive at school between 8.30am-8.45am, so they can get themselves resourced and organised for their learning day.
Encourage your child to listen to the Panui ō te ra to hear about sports trials and leadership opportunities. Some of the extracurricular activities that will be occurring in Term 1 are Norwest T-ball, Norwest Swimming, lunchtime Badminton, Choir, Wastewise, and many more.
With our collaboration focus, kaiako plan together and meet regularly throughout the day to discuss ākonga progress, and how to best meet their needs. We are excited to have three committed and enthusiastic kaiako in our learning areas. The kaiako in our year level include:
Mr David Brake, Year 5 Learning Leader - Red Room H6, and Whiria te Tangata within-school lead. Te Reo Māori

Ko au te kaiako matua o te kura nei.

kei Maungawhau tōku kāinga ināianei.
I grew up in an extremely competitive sporting family, where my siblings and I represented New Zealand in Tennis. I started my adulthood as an Architectural Draughtsman and worked for a Rotorua architect designing schools, resorts and commercial buildings. I like to bring an element of design into my classroom for the students to explore.
This year, I am extremely excited to have the opportunity to lead the Year 5 cohort, and work alongside two talented teachers, Ms Tehran Aspin and Ms Shyal Chand. In the 14 years of working in education, I have worked with a range of students, from Early Childhood to Secondary School. I joined Hobsonville School in 2016, and enjoyed two years in the Year 5/6 team before two years in Year 3. The last four years I have had the pleasure of teaching in the Year 7/8 cohort.
I like to create a structured, fast-paced learning environment where every student has the opportunity to learn through a full range of learning experiences. With clear goals, expectations and the right support, students are able to manage their own learning. I believe that you should never give up on your dreams, and as a teacher I like to support students to find their own.

I am very excited to be part of the Year 5 team at Hobsonville School in the Red Room with Ms Aspin and Mr Brake, our Team Leader. This will be my tenth year as a teacher and second year of teaching at Hobsonville. I look forward to knowing all the students in the Red Room and creating a wonderful learning environment for the students. My passions for teaching are Maths and Science. I enjoy painting in my spare time, and I wish to establish a creative learning experience in the classroom. I cannot wait to get started!

Ko au te kaiako o ngā tau rima o te kura nei.

This year, I am extremely excited to have the opportunity to teach in the Year 5 cohort, and see many familiar faces that were in the 2022 Year 3 cohort with myself. Alongside me, I will be fortunate to be working with two talented teachers, Mr David Brake and Ms Shyal Chand. In my 2 years of teaching at Hobsonville School, I have been extremely lucky to have many opportunities to learn and develop my teaching practise through a range of learning experiences and professional development workshops. I like to create a positive learning environment where students are able to feel safe and comfortable in order to develop a positive student-teacher relationship. I believe this is important, because as a teacher I like to support students to see themselves as learners, and to succeed with their goals and dreams.
We hope your tamariki are looking forward to the opportunities being offered this term.
Remember that we have an open-door policy so please do email us if you have any questions or queries.
