“Gong xi fa cai” Pronounced “Gong si fa chai” (happy Chinese New Year) to all our students and families at Hobsonville School.
Chinese New Year is a period of celebration in Chinese culture. Chinese New Year lasts for 15 days. It marks the beginning of a new year, dictated by a very ancient calendar traditionally used by farmers based on the moon phases.
Each year in Chinese culture is associated with an animal from the Chinese New Year Zodiac story. Chinese New Year 2024 marks the beginning of the year of the Dragon.
In Chinese culture, Chinese New Year marks the end of winter and the beginning of spring. It’s a period for celebrating, looking forward, and spending time with family.
