Corbans Estate Arts Centre — August 29, 2024
We at Te Pou Theatre are gearing up for our 10th Kōanga Festival Whānau Day here at Corbans Estate Arts Centre in Henderson.
Our Whānau Day, on Saturday 7 September from 10.00am-3.00pm, is a free family-centred day celebrating storytelling in all its many forms and inspiring our youngest storytellers with pūrākau from around the world. Since the inception of Kōanga Festival, Whānau Day has been the opening event that kicks us off. It’s always been important to us that we start with kaupapa that bring our community and people together - he tangata, he tangata, he tangata
There will be free storytelling events, performances, activities, and kai that are sure to delight tamariki (children) and pakeke (adults) alike!
The day is packed full with activities, performances, food trucks, games, workshops, storytellings and more.
This year, Whānau Day features performances from MOHI, Dust Palace Circus, Sau e Siva, Manutaki kapa haka. A Fool’s Company return with Rae-cycling and the Binfluenza: Operation Green, as well as our reo Māori kids show, Te Hokinga Mai a Hoiho. Stories from around the world will be shared by Raukura Roa (Māori), Tangaroa Paul (Māori), Renee Liang (China), Samoan Storytelling as well as Rakygo by Hiroshi (Japan). Come along for all ages fun with pukapuka and printmaking workshops.
