Street Art Sight-seeing Excursion

Kym Thompson —

A group of Kaunuku students are investigating street art and street artists for Kaupapa Ako.

On Tuesday 8 August about 70 Kaunuku ākonga, in two groups, descended upon Christchurch city centre to have a look at some of the amazing street art our city has to offer.

On our hikoi (walk) these ākonga were awed by the fantastic and inspiring artworks and appalled by the amount of tagging and graffiti.

Lots of conversation was generated about the messages behind the different artworks and how we could use street art and our disgust of tagging to make a difference both here at Haeata and in our community.

This is the beginning of our journey, watch this space for what is to come. Karawhuia!
